Abstract:

Mythos can be regarded as an (absolutely) true story about the beginning of the world. Man with the mythical consciousness understands his spiritual transcendence and perceives time as eternity. The mythical consciousness was predominant in the society at first, but in the Antiquity started being replaced with the mental consciousness that puts science on a pedestal. However, the mythical consciousness is ingrained in man. National and transnational systems -- the Holy Roman Empire, the United States of America as well as the European Community -- were created with the consciousness of mythos. Man is able to transform the mythos, as a return to the (ideal) beginning, into political visions. New mythoi can be created by abusing the original ones -- see the Nazi mythos or the Communist mythos. However, such mythoi do not work in a long run and represent the negative externalities of the mythical consciousness. The true and original mythos must be one and universal since the beginning of the world (Earth, universe) is just one as well. The synthesis of the mythical consciousness and the mental consciousness (the synthesis of spirit and science) gives rise to the integral consciousness that sees matters in a complex manner ("he, who shall not understand everything, shall understand nothing") and interconnects feelings with reason. Political visions created based on the integral consciousness and implemented based on spontaneity and democratic consensus can move the society to a qualitatively higher level.

Abstract:

This thesis examines Epictetus' view on Cynic philosophy, as it is being expressed in chapter 22 of the third book of Diatribai ("The Discourses"). The chapter has traditionally been seen as an idealized and deceitful portrait of the Cynic, and has been questioned as an intended justification of stoics and Cynics in the overall view on the history of philosophy. This thesis, however, attempts a different approach on the matter, based upon a thorough discussion regarding the field of research, as well as on different ways to read and understand the text at hand, in order to seek out a view that goes beyond the traditional distinction between practice and theory. The thesis thus challenges the view where the philosophy of Epictetus is seen as an instrumental practice of stoic theory, isolated to the field of ethics. The reading of the chapter focuses mainly on the philosophical purpose of the text and its intended practice, and finds that much of the stoic ascetic practice is not only taught through instructions, but also performed in the lecture and Epictetus' way of speaking. Epictetus' portrait of the philosophical Cynic is thus understood, not only as an extreme end that serves as an ascetic role-model, but also as a basic archetype of what it actually means to practice a philosophical way of thinking, that is of central importance to Epictetus philosophy. This sheds a new light on both the traditional distinction between stoic theory and practice, and on much of the research performed on the field of stoicism this far, as well as on that of Cynicism.

Thesis (MPhil)--University of Stellenbosch, 2001.
ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Technology and disability are both terms laden with associations, values, meanings and even myths. This becomes clear in this research when bothterms are described in the first part, and the various understandings of theterms are explained. When the two terms are considered in relation to eachother, the result is a series of questions and ethical problems. In this assignment the focus is specifically on these questions and ethicalproblems that arise out of the relationship between technology and disability. The research is not done from a natural science perspective (with regard totechnology) and lor a medical perspective (with regards to disability), but froma philosophical-ethical perspective. The main aim of this research is to thinkabout what the role of technology is in the life of the disabled in general andwhat ethical questions arise from it.To form a philosophical-ethical perspective the question is asked: shouldtechnology be accepted unequivocally as something that always contributesto the humanization of the disabled? More specifically the assignment focuseson the issue: does cochlear implants contribute to the humanization of thedeaf? The potential problematic relationship between the concepts is clear from theseparate discussions. The limitations and problems of cochlear implants as anexample of technology is shown when it is placed within the framework of ahumanizing relationship. It is clear that technology can not be acceptedunequivocally as something that always contributes to the humanization of thedisabled. The research emphasizes that disability is much more than physicallimitations and that compensating for the limitations through technology doesnot always address all the aspects of a disabled person's life - and canconsequently have a dehumanizing effect. A more holistic approach isconsidered - one in which all the aspects of being human is addressed. Theunique challenges of the South African context is discussed shortly and inconclusion the necessity of an "ethics of responsibility" is shown.Reflection on technology and disability is in the end reflection on life and themysteries of life. Disability that reminds us of our limitations and shortcomings, also reminds us that life is not in our control and that a big part of living is anunsolvable riddle, a mystery.

Abstract:

Marketing is all about communication. In a world where environmental degradation is a part of everyday life, it is important to communicate the options that provides a better condition for sustainable development. This work examines the ability of marketers to promote sustainable development through accountability-based marketing and to promote responsible. Selected companies have been investigated on their way to market themselves and how they claim to uphold sustainable development through it. The theoretical part of the work is the basis for a drama production which resulted in a way to apply a responsibility based marketing. The growing responsibility of marketers have with time become much bigger. What can the profession of marketing contribute to a better sustainable future?

This thesis reflects upon the question of how does philosophy think a particular today, which is not only a legitimate philosophical task but a determinative characteristic of philosophy in general. Today's thought follows two paths: first, an hermeneutical-phenomenological analysis of Martin Heidegger's thought with regards to his own contemporaneity; and secondly, through the analysis of the contemporary phenomenon of Information Technology which in the present work is to be considered a privileged sign of our times and distinctive of the mindfulness of philosophy. Therefore, the starting point is an investigation of Heidegger's thinking on his own era to whom facticity is a way of accessing the fundamental question of philosophy. This thesis is led by three guiding words which hold onto a perspective of unity in Heidegger s lifetime of work: 1. Technicity, 2. History, 3. Language, to thereby develop a characterization of human existence as 1. Technopolitical, 2. Technoscientific, and 3. Technological. Finally, in keeping with this triangular characterization of the human, a philosophical comprehension of our times will be established and drawn by Information Technology illustrating three of its' factual signs that are understood to be the 'Remains of Being' today: The Emptying of Speech (Language); The Emptying of Science (History); The Emptying of The Object (Technicity). Through these nowadays phenomenon, it is possible to maintain a grip on the fundamental question, precisely when the task of philosophy seems to have peremptorily lost its meaning and come to its logical end and to show how philosophizing in the information era is as possible as it is necessary.

Abstract:

2010 - 2011
The thesis aims to analyze, from a historical perspective and through a philosophical and educational approach, the process of the exercise of philosophizing in the Brazilian secondary school in the period from 1837 to 1915, under the dimension of teaching the philosophical act. It aims to demonstrate that philosophizing in Brazil in the nineteenth century was cultivated in and disseminated within the institutions that offered the humanities as a requirement for access to higher education. The under-standing of school discipline as a production by the school and for the school of Andre Chervel served as a theoretical and methodological guide to produce this work. According to this perspective, pedagogy, methodologies and didactics of the teaching of a content of a school discipline are constructions carried out within the school itself in function of the purposes that the school traces for itself, without, however, understanding it as education system to which it belongs. From this perspective, the research presented here, in the Provincial Reports, in the Reports of the Empire, in the Reports of the Public Instruction and in the Memories of the Faculties of the Empire, looked for elements about the content and organization of the teaching of Philosophy in the national secondary. The results demonstrate that the teaching of Philosophy in the period was subordinated to the dynamics of the faculties of the Empirere

Abstract:

Abstract

This paper is about the philosophies created by Henry David Thoreau (1817-1862) and Friedrich Nietzsche (1844-1900). The purpose is to show the high degree of similarities between Thoreau’s and Nietzsche’s philosphy.

At first glance, it seems far-fetched to suggest an affinity between them; the differences in style and choice of subjects, have most certainly contributed to the fact that very few comparisons so far have been made. There is no evidence that one experienced any influence over the other, neither writer seems to have been aware of the other. Also their different areas of use during the 20th century, may have influenced the almost total lack of search for affinity. Thoreau’s philosphy has often been used by environmentalist movements, while Nietzsche has been connected to a wide range of various strivings, such as totalitarian regimes, individualistic artists and post-modern thinkers.

But if one disregard these facts, look beyond the differences, and break down their texts in search for their most fundamental opinions, one will see that Nietzsche and Thoreau shared a number of concerns. They were both ciritical to many aspects of the modern civilisation, espacially the way of life it encouraged. It was a life style, deep rooted in an obstructive tradition, that did not take the very essential conditions of life into consideration. This was both Thoreau’s and Nietzsche’s opinion, and their philosophies represent a willingness to re-establish a way of life that ignores all traditions hostile to life.

Both of them criticize the religion and its moral of work, the modern science, and many institutions of the modern society – the schools and the prisons for example. But they also praise things, things they claim to have a value in contrast to the modern way of life – the simple things. Both Thoreau and Nietzsche praise the solitude life style, the silent walking in the wilderness, the simple but healthy food, as well as some intellectual stimulus, especially good litterature and music. All these simple things contribute to Thoreau’s and Nietzsche’s opinion of life; it should be looked upon with the eyes of a child. Life should be like a play.

The title of this paper is Philosphers of the Rooster and the Morning. The title suggests the similarities I have found between Thoreau’s and Nietzsche’s philosophies. They both announce an awakening. For them, a new morning has broken, and this paper shows the similar circumstances they give credit for their awakening.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Thesis (MPhil)--Stellenbosch University, 2012.
ENGLISH ABSTRACT: 1. The purpose of the first chapter was to give a short introduction to the study. Philosophy is the search for wisdom; to know what a virtuous life is and to know what the morally correct thing to do is. Our lifelong relationship with animals, our attitudes towards them and the ways we treat them are some of the issues that beg philosophers to think. An important question in this regard is if it is morally correct to eat meat or should humans become vegetarian. To answer this question the „Animal Liberation‟ argument, as presented by Peter Singer, was critically analyzed. Does this argument balance our concern for animals with human interests?2. To understand our attitude towards animals, reviews of the Judeo-Christian and philosophical traditions were done in Chapter 2. The different views related to these traditions were also discussed. The Judeo-Christian view is based on the interpretation of Genesis and the idea of human dominion. Philosophical views on the moral status of animals and moral consideration of animals can be classified in three categories namely indirect theories, direct-but-unequal theories and equal moral status theories.3. The nature and extent of the current beef production debate was discussed in Chapter 3. The most important issues were the environmental impact of beef production, socio-economic and human health concerns as well as ethical issues related to the inhumane treatment of animals. It was then concluded that most attacks on beef production were biased and did not take context into account.4. The „Animal Liberation‟ argument was critically analyzed from a logical perspective in Chapter 4, 5 and 6 by using the so called FRISCO approach – with emphasis on the Focus of the argument, Reasons given for the conclusion, the quality of Inferences, the Situation or context of the argument as well as the Clarity of the argument. This argument lacks objectivity and rationality. It includes a number of fallacies, false statements and emotional language. Ideas, concepts and principles were not applied consistently. The argument was therefore found to be unsound.5. In Chapter 7 the conclusion was stated namely that the “animal liberation” approach could not formulate a sound argument for a vegetarian diet. The „Animal Liberation‟ argument was also unable to balance our concern for animals with human interests, in the process compromising human dignity and freedom. However, human attitudes towards animals and the treatment of animals need to be improved.
AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: 1.

This dissertation aims to understand radio as a philosophical exercise. It examines the process of production of communication in Philosophy classes of a public school in the State of São Paulo, located in Jardim das Flores neighborhood, in Osasco, with high school students since the year 2014. The terminology analyzed in this dissertation was carefully selected taking into account the explorations, observations and experiences transcribed in an academic vocabulary so that the reader understands the feeling of a problematizing research spirit. Its objective were to analyze radio as a resource of communication that collaborates for the exercise of philosophizing in Philosophy classes. The research reasoning is conducted through the experience of “Cala-Boca Já Morreu Project – because we also have something to say!”, which has been working with education through the media for 22 years, and the creation of Radio Latorre, a school project idealized in Philosophy classes whose goal is to change the student role from technology consumer to content producer.

Abstract:

This study analyzed the development of the capacity of philosophize in the deaf children art and in search for visual aesthetics practice in the process of constructing this capacity. For this, 10 deaf research subjects were interviewed (individually and collectively) in a municipal deaf school in Gravataí in Rio Grande do Sul state, were they were presented to some pictures from Da Vinci, Picasso and Baird (deaf artists). The goal was to stimulate these subjects to reflect, from aesthetics experiences, in a way of expressing their knowledge and of practicing view experience, bringing their hypothesis and understandings about the pictures and observing how these experiences could contribute to construct the capacity of philosophize in the deaf subject art. The main theoretical support was the Michael J. Parsons’ studies about the aesthetics levels of art understandings which were tabulated and systemized to better qualitative analyses of data. This methodological proposal has been adopted for us in this research. Marly Meira and Walter Kohan’s studies pass through our research as the basis of the philosophical creation and the thinking about the thinking. I would also emphasize the Duarte’s studies in sensitive education and the Pillar’s studies of education for view. We could verify a notable relation between aesthetics experiences and the dialogues with possibilities of new understandings about art and with the creation of new philosophical thinking.

Abstract:

The study proposes itself a relevance and viability analysis of the insertion of Philosophy in the educational proposal, to the level of basic education. In the search of understanding that is configured in an emancipator process by the vies of the aesthetic experience. The discussion of the subject of the Philosophy of images as pedagogical-didactical alternative to philosophize with children in school, has as basic theoretical contributions the Program Philosophy for Children, by Matthew Lipman, and the Theory of Communicative Action by Jürgen Habermas. Philosophy has been permitting us to unveil the paradigms for education, in the transition to the post-modern society, in the presence of emerging necessities in the pedagogical action, with the shift from the conscience philosophy to the language philosophy, in which is accented the dialogical and communicative character of reason. Through the hermeneutic reading exercise, there is the purpose of analyzing some significant moments referring to the emergence of the infancy and its different images, searching the philosophical understanding in the global context, always noticing the specificity of our country. It is believed, that Philosophy through images may resignify the process of insertion of Philosophy in the schools and redimensionate the cultural formation dynamic, renewing the discussion about its teaching, departing from the referential of aesthetic images used in the language. In the present context, the images propose themselves as an access channel to knowledge, and in a second moment as a didactic resource. In the knowledge construction it is fundamental a deeper and more complete reflexion of the educative activity, due to the possibility of interpretation of the tensions that occur in the ambit of education, linking to this aspect a cognitive competence development theory and the implications of a communicative rationality in the pedagogical praxis.

Abstract:

In this paper, I have proposed a way of interpreting the philosophical subject of the Discours de la méthode that has remained relatively unexplored by contemporary commentators. By investigating the subjectivity that is expressed through Descartes’ use of architectural metaphors, I laid bare some of the difficulties inherent in its discursive structure, as well as suggesting that the cogito in fact repeats and inscribes itself into this structure. In this context, the metaphor of the road (or travel) takes a supplementary role in relation to the architectural metaphor, marking the very conditions of existence of the architectonic subject. The subject, in order that it may establish itself as ”pure” and ”independent” thought, is dependent on a certain ”forgetfullness”; that is, only by forgetting its constitutive dependence on the diversity and historicity that is signified by the metaphor of travel, can it establish itself as its own source. A history of philosophy which takes considerations of metaphors and other literary aspects as the center of its inquiry still needs to be written. This paper can be seen as an example of such an investigation.

For the German philosopher Martin Heidegger, the ´´Putting philosophize in Progress`` is only possible by means of an event in the internal structures of the human being-there. Being the ´´Powered philosophize in Progress`` passer in the pathways of tradition, as the reach inside the human being-there? It is in this perspective that we appropriate the concept of ´´Introduction to Philosophy´´ Martin Heidegger in order to reflect on the issues that deal with the path of philosophy as genuinely human activity, making the same statement and clarification . The philosophy shows up in inflows ordered, so that during your itinerary, denial and implementing certain concepts related to discursive criteria. The assessments will be conducted which in essence bring engendering meaningful concepts, how the concepts of Philosophy, Leadership and Worldview, because, if you want to demonstrate, develop an ´´Introduction to Philosophy´´ in Heidegger is not restricted to a Academic discussion, but a way of being of being-there own human and therefore depend on such concepts for explicitarmos sense of what is in fact the ´´Powered philosophize in Progress``.

Abstract:

ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Utopia, Philosophy and HermeneuticsExploring the thought of Gianni VattimoArticle I:The End of UtopiaAn explanation for the rise of distopia in popular culture with reference to the ideas ofGianni VattimoIn this article the development of utopianism is described by tracing it back to itsoriginal classical form, following it through its modernistic form and finallydescribing distopia as the postmodern form of utopia. Using the ideas of GianniVattimo, distopia is interpreted as the creative embodiment of the "counterfinality ofreason". In this way distopia acts as a critique of modem rationalism. The question israised if it is possible to speak of "the end of utopia" in postmodern times. It isconcluded that utopian thought remains and functions as a necessary fiction inpostmodern ethics.Article II:An Appropriate Postmodern PhilosophyA discussion of the hermeneutics of Gianni VattimoThe aim of this article is to discuss the radical hermeneutics proposed by the Italianphilosopher Gianni Vattimo. Vattimo declares a radicalization of hermeneutics to bethe only consistent, persuasive and valid approach to the postmodern conditions ofexistence we find ourselves in today. In order to explain what this approach entails, and how Vattimo justifies it, this article discusses his interpretation of the history (andend) of modernity, as well as his proposals for a new task for philosophy, and for apostmodern ethics.

Abstract:

Our main theme in this work is the philosophical thinking of Jaroslava Pešková, one of the most important Czech philosophers. The problem, which we start with, is the situation of marxist philosophy in 50th and 60th of the 20th century and the position of Jaroslava Pešková in this period and in the Czech philosophy in general. Instead of summation of all the subject in her texts, we rather want to realize the "deep exploration" of the philosophical basis, from which Jaroslava Pešková thinks, and which is not visible at first sight, even for readers familiar with philosophy. This philosophical ground we see in the concept of human being, which is not only in the worldly relations (economical, sociological, political, juridical, psychological, biological etc. etc.), but has a relation to all of these relations. To this structure and its philosophical ground we are trying to take an acccss and to make it visible in our probes into the key themes of Jaroslava Pešková's thinking. The philosophical and ideological movement from marxist to phenomenological philosophy wasn't thematized by marxist thinkers such as Jiří Pešek, Jaroslava Pešková or Karel Kosík. Also this lap we are trying to fill.

Abstract:

The topic of the present thesis is the philosophy of Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk. The main aim of the theses is to create a complete and lucid progress of Masaryk's thinking considering the main influence on Masaryk as a philisopher. The thesis examines what and who influenced Masaryk the most and which individual experience formed his global philosophy. The thesis proceeds chronologically and copies Masaryk's life. It describes his pesonal development influenced by the work of other authors and philosophers and also by examining the answers of newly risen questions. The individual traces in his thinking, however, are not strictly isolated. The theses is thus trying to find the intersection of different influences. The issues are mostly identical. Nevertheless, Masaryk's attitude towards them develops and changes. Every influence on Masaryk and his reflection would make a thesis itself, therefore we remain at the basic philosophical points. The theses examines three areas - the first is Masaryk's source, meaning the inspiring author. Second is Masaryk's interpretation and understanding. The last area deals with Masaryk's comments and other authors analyzing his work. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

Abstract:

In this thesis, we interrogate the possibility of freedom presupposed by the project of philosophical critique developed by late Foucault, which aims both at analysis of historical a priori conditions and at disruption of our present a priori. The first chapter shows that this critical project can be traced back to Foucault's early works. Moreover, Foucault tackled the problem of freedom in every phase of his work and he kept proposing the same solution, namely, that the spaces of freedom are opened up by ruptures emerging within the system governing a given period. Next, different concepts of freedom present in Foucault's texts are distinguished. On this basis, it is possible to restate the question of critic's freedom, which we now define as the problem of articulation between the ontological freedom, the reflective freedom and the freedom of transformation. The second chapter is devoted to Foucault's archaeological period. First, we show how the conception presented in The Order of the Things leads to aporias regarding the question of freedom. Next, we describe the theoretical transformations carried out in The Archaeology of Knowledge and examine whether Foucault succeeded in eliminating the earlier difficulties. However, this later solution also turns out to be unsatisfactory, because it falls...

However this thesis aims to show that there can be found a consistent political doctrine of agonistic liberalism in Gray's thought that arises from his critigue of rationalistic theories of liberalism. Agonistic liberalism is based on the naturalistic ethical theory of value-pluralism which Gray adopted whit some modifications from Isaiah Berlin. On the ground of incommensurability and uncombinability of some values within individuel lives as well as within life forms Gray comes to conclusion that the conflict of values is ineradicable part of our lives. And that's the reason why any legel or political theory cannot set up a set of liberal principles that could claim universal validity. That is why Gray sets up the concept of modus vivendi, political ideal of coexistence of individuals, groups and societies based on mutual toleration. With regard to the rational indeterminacy of conflicts over values, according to agonistic liberalism these conflict has to by resolved by political means.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to explore Bernard Williams' moral philosophy in its entirety. This objective is motivated by the critique which is sometimes being forced against Williams. This criticism is based on the objection that his thinking is thoroughly destructive in relation to philosophical ethics. The purpose to explore Williams' thinking in its entirety implicitly questions such an objection for it basically consists in the identification of the constructive moments of Williams' thinking and linking them with his skeptical attitudes. Accordingly, the project of this thesis is to show how Williams' attack on morality and moral system is being completed in notions of shame, truthfulness, and authenticity, which he develops in his late work and which delineate the alternative conception of ethics and ethical life to prevailing legalistic model.

Boshoff,H.J. "Die ontogenese van filosofie." Diss., 2015. http://hdl.handle.net/2263/50775.

Abstract:

Drie werke wat figureer in my ondersoek is Nietzsche se Birth of Tragedy, Plato se Phaedrus en Derrida se Of Grammatology.
This study will explore the development and influence of logocentrism in philosophy. Logocentrism presupposes that writing, the medium in which philosophy has been cast in since Plato, is a complete supplement for the voice. In particular, the study will focus on the influence that the phonetic alphabet had on the development of this presupposition. The implication of this approach stretches further than writing; it also has an influence on the way the role of technics has been understood as a whole. Technics, according to the logocentric approach, consists of the ability to make reality fully transparent and manipulable. If the transparency of mediums is questioned, however, alternative possibilities can emerge. Firstly, the principle of reproducibility and stability can no longer be attributed or read into reality. Furthermore, humanity should be seen as subject to the changes that occur in reality. Lastly, humanity’s relation to the changing nature of reality must be closely related to technics. To explore these alternatives, my study will be supported by the notion of individuation as described by Gilbert Simondon. Simondon explains that individuation refers to that way that individuals, societies, and technical mediums take shape in cohesion. The relation is dynamic, which means that each of the parts is subject to ongoing change.Philosophy is no exception to this rule and will be examined through its own process of ontogenesis. Ontogenesis implies that a system can endure, even if a primary element gets lost. Therefore the precondition for the endurance of philosophy exists insofar it doesn’t remain attached to logocentrism.Three works that will be used in my study will be Nietzsche’s Birth of Tragedy, Plato’s Phaedrus, and Derrida’s Of Grammatology.

Abstract:

The paper focuses on the personality of Sergei Iosifovich Gessen, Russian philosopher and emigrant, who lived and worked in Czechoslovakia during the inter-war period. The main aim is to present Gessen's philosophy of pedagogy, mostly by means of his works, that were written and published during his stay in our country. This includes his articles for journal Russian school abroad, of which he was also an editor, his shorter studies but most importantly his monography Philosophical principles of pedagogy, which was partly rewritten by the author for the purpose of its Czech edition. Based on his works, we will try to formulate the topics and the principles, which Gessen emphasizes in his texts and which should be valid in his ideal pedagogical system. We will also consider, if the pedagogical topics he was analyzing are still up to date in contemporary circumstances. Abstract:

The work analyzes Walter Benjamin's philosophy oflanguage presenting it as an ontological and cognitive basis ofhis early thought (1916-1925). The investigation starts from a detailed study of an unpublished reflection On language as Such and on the Language of Man. The analysis of the text contrasts its metaphysical interpretation with its deconstructive reading opting for a hermeneutical approach. Benjamin's philosophy of language is presented as a theory in which all being is conceived as language. Benjamin not only constructs a metaphysical conception according to which all human beings express themselves to God by naming existing things, but simultaneously defines constitutive property of (all) language, namely its "immediacy", i.e. the fact that language is primarily not a medium of communication. However, the text On language describes also a (biblical) fall which causes a loss of immediacy and a rise of the multiplicity of languages. The area of (fallen) plurality of languages is investigated in the The Tas k of the Translator, which focuses on the relation and kinship of languages. This kinship is based on the fact that alllanguages want to say the same thing, namely the "pure language". The analysis of The Task of the Translator stresses the semantic and, in this sense, conceptual aspect of...

Abstract:

Joseph Soloveitchik (1903 - 1993), rabbi and philosopher, one of the most important representatives of modern Jewish Orthodoxy, has made an attempt to translate traditional Jewish religious concepts in the language of modern science and philosophy. As a philosopher, he was versed in the Neo-Kantian philosophy of the Marburg School, as a rabbi he was under the influence of the so-called Analytical School, founded in Eastern Europe by members of his family. From the philosophical heritage of Neo-Kantianism he adopted the emphasis on the pureness of thought, understood as mathematical and scientific, and from the direct Kant's inheritance he endorsed particularly his a priori concept of pure forms of sensible intuition and cognitive categories. The Analytic School affected him through their emphasis on a non-historical analysis of religious concepts, leading to their deeper knowledge, and in the same time establishing a new relation to the Transcendent. In this way, Soloveitchik has rehabilitated religion as a noesis and aimed at its philosophical reflection. The central notion of his religious philosophy is halakhah, traditionally conceived as a set of norms and commandments ruling the life of a practising Jew. In Soloveitchik's view the halakhah has become a philosophical concept, a hermeneutic key to the...

Abstract:

Doctoral dissertations: Philosophy of Education and Hermeneutics of the Chorismos Author: Zbyněk Zicha ABSTRACT: The dissertation addresses two areas of philosophical thinking, philosophy of education and an area of thinking of chorismos. The task of this dissertation is to indicate the possibility of rethinking their mutual concurrence. The work explores the philosophy of education as idiosyncratic ground of thought capable of receiving inspiration coming from thinking of chorismos. The author was inspired by interpretations of chorismos written with regard to Jan Patocka's thinking. The dissertation starts with an opening (the first chapter.) and with an introduction to problems (2nd ch.). The next chapter focuses on searching for the the meaning, essence and basic opportunities of philosophy of education (3rd ch.) that is followed by preliminary inquiry of hermeneutics of chorismos in relation to the philosophy of education (4th). There is a key section reflecting on the importance of hermeneutics of chorismos for philosophy of education (4.4) in the 4th chapter. Hermeneutics of chorismos is not perceived not only as an interpretation of chorismos, but foremostly as a philosophical inquiry of essential problems of philosophy and philosophy of education thought with regard to problem of chorismos. Abstract:

The Christian concept of hope is often criticised for the asceticism, renouncement, and passiveness in expecting the arrival of God's kingdom in "future time". On the contrary, the eschatology of Nikolai Berdyaev in Christian philosophy speaks about the necessary transformation of the world by the human itself, determining the arrival of God's kingdom. The aim of this thesis is to analyse the concept of hope related to the world, which is currently estranged and objectified. This approach is further looked upon in the context of similarly eschatologically-orientated Ernst Bloch's Philosophy of hope, Jürgen Moltmann's Theology of hope, and Johann Baptist Metz's Political theology. The thesis aims to evaluate the extent of the transferability of Berdyaev's thinking into current debates about the Christian philosophy of hope. Abstract:

I have presented this work which, I admit, has not one integrated aim, but tries to handle it comprehensively with more questions. The reason why I have chosen theoretical or philosophical law work was that I have been interested for a long time in common questions rather than particular details and more, that I have got an opportunity to study the topic which affects philosophical questions, which has also been my long-time interest. The reason why I have chosen Rousseau, is mainly that, he was the principal author who mediated the most important ideological turning point between the so - called ancien regime and new citizen society. The reason why I was concerned with, mainly, the piece about the social contract was above all, that there are ideas meeting philosophy and law and, most of all, matches for analysis of the work designed for a law faculty. Appropriately, I have also added conclusions from other of his works. I'm trying to connect law and philosophy questions, in two places, which, in my opinion unfortunately, cannot be done. It's a question of technical development and more of art or, more widely, of the cultural aspect of a society. The basic aspiration of the work is to introduce Rousseau's conception of the Social contract, but also to show , that it is not possible to execute it to a...

Abstract:

The thesis are focused on the Czech author and philosopher Ladislav Klíma. The core topics are analyses of the philosophical systém, which is called Egosolisms, created by him. In the first part I have dissected the method thanks to which Klíma reached his view. The theses take into special consideration his "universal sense" and time. The thesis also mention Klíma's transition from theoretical thinking to formulations of particular ethical principles which the author also practised during his life. Furthermore the whole system is examined from a conceivable point of view and some contradictions are revealed. These contradictions are pointing out that more likely we are handeling with a particular confession rather than a effort to bring a certain inner cohesive systém of statements. The thesis are also researching to what degree do Klima's thoughts come from authors in whose connections it is spoke about Klima's work. The comperation basically is between Klima and Schopenhauer's conception of will and Nietzsche's conception of time. In the second part I was mainly dealing with Klima's ethic conclusions and suggestions, his criticism of Christianity and his approach to death and mortality. There is a tendency to show that despite of the verbal assaulting book Klima takes over a lot from religious forms of...

Abstract:

Widely known definition of pedagogy as a science of education, which is a process of intentional action on the individual, doesn't accurately represent the true substance of upbringing and education according to Jan Patočka, one of the most important Czech philosopher. He asks for fundamental questions about the nature of education and their targets. Education is the foundation of humanity itself for him and it is essentially connected to philosophy. Primarily the education is the education to humanity for Patočka. It is about education, which is interpreted as a care of the soul, of the soul opened to the outside world. It should lead to awareness, it should be determined by a kind of moral idea and finally it makes us human. Patočka criticizes purely scientific and theoretical education full of positivist utilitarianism and POLYMATHIA. On the contrary, he puts the process of education and training to the field of the natural world, the world of human experience in which a person has to carry out his options and scheduling its life. The philosophy helps to orient in the natural world. Thus the education is the essence of philosophy. The thesis deals with the pedagogical and educational moments, which can be seen from Patočka's phenomenological philosophy, and it deals also with analysis of the...
